300 Club August Draw

We did the August Draw at week 1 of the Aussie Triples Competition on a soggy Friday 29th.

Sue Targus won the £100 1st prize, followed by Peter Dawe £50, John Rawson £50 and Ann Green the 4th prize of £20. Unlike last month, when all winners were present at the draw, this month none of the winners were there; not that this makes any difference to the winners of the £££s which will still make their way to their new home.

Next month the prizes will be £200, £75, £50 and £25 and all being well, will be drawn after the Annual Chairman v Secretary Match.

300 Club July Draw

The July Draw was somewhat unusual, and at some point I wondered if the raffle machine was having a dizzy spell, because all four winning numbers were in the 1-50 range. To prove we had set the machine up correctly I pressed the button a few more times to satisfy myself that higher numbers up to 300 would pop up eventually!

It was also unusual that all four winners were present in the room as their numbers came up, I'm sure that's also a first!

Anyway, first prize of £75 went to Chris Roberts, then Philippa won £50, followed by Brooksie also winning £50 and finally Colin Vickers with the £20 4th prize.

Next month we have £220 to give away, including the first prize of £100.

300 Club June Draw

It was a real treat to host the June Draw on the 27th and see Terry Emberson’s face light up when his number came up to win him £200! Jackie seemed quite pleased too!

The Tennis Club’s Fran Ray and Neil Morgan also won prizes of £75 and £50 respectively - they’ve both contributed much to the Sports Club over the years so it was great to see them win something in the 300 Club.

Ian Griffiths also won the 4th prize of £25, and he’s one of the unsung heroes regularly lending a hand to keep our lovely green surroundings in good shape.

Well done to all the winners! The July Draw will be held on the 25th, with a total of £195 being given away.

300 Club Draw May

It’s a new 300 Club year and many thanks to everyone who have renewed their numbers or taken up new numbers. Thanks for supporting the 300 Club!

This year's first draw was delayed a touch and took place on 6th June. And turned out to be a Ladies' Night celebration!

First prize £100 went to Jean Miller, 2nd prize £50 to Sandra French, 3rd £50 to Sarah Mathews and 4th £50 to Diane Pomfret. Congratulations all.

June’s draw will be on 27th June with a top prize of £200.

300 Club Draw April 2025

We had the final draw of the 300 Club year on the same evening as the Competitions Draws. The lucky winners this time around were John Rawson £75 with number 60, Tony Adamson £50 with no.129, Maggie Gibbons £50 with no.81, and Catherine Jones £20 with no.3! Congrats to all of you lucky winners!

Thanks to all your fantastic support, the 300 Club was able to donate £3,768 to the Sports Club on 30th April. This money will help cover the running costs, including next year’s loan repayments to Thame Town Council. And since this time last year, the loan the Sports Club had from Oxfordshire LTA is now fully repaid, a huge step forward!

I’ll be emailing everyone very soon to ask for their continued support of the 300 Club for another year.

A big thank you to everyone who had a number or numbers this year. We truly appreciate your support!

300 Club March Draw

The March Draw was done on Friday Night in the writer's absence, so for once no blame can be placed at my door by non-winners!

Peter Hughes is a happy man having won £200 this time around, Denise Manger bagged the £75 2nd prize while Diane Pomfret won herself £50 (strange, but exactly one year ago in March 2024, Di won £200 with the same number) and Willemien Barnes took the £25 4th prize.

Thanks to everyone who supported the 300 Club this past year and I will be writing in a few weeks' time about the new May 2025 - April 2026 300 Club year when I hope you will support us again.  I have a 'waiting list' on the go for anyone wanting any numbers that become available, so please contact me if that applies to you.

300 Club February Draw

I missed Phil Reed chirping in my ear to remind me to do the 300 Club draw on Friday 28th., so we did it at Monday night’s short mat session instead.  Wendy Rawson won the £100 first prize, Byron won £50, Les Canfield got the other £50 prize, and Pat Wills won £20.

Next month, the prizes will be £200, £75, £50, and £25, drawn in my absence (I hope) on 28th March.

300 Club January Draw

We did January’s 300 Club Draw on Friday 31st.  After last month’s bumper prize money we had more modest sums to give away this time.

Nikki Jackson won the first prize £75 with number 93, then our Competitions Guru Adrian Wilcox won £50 with his number 72.  Norman Hyde, who a few minutes earlier told me confidently that he’d win that night, did just that, winning £50 with number 112.  And Chris Bennell won £20 with number 33.

Top prize is £100 next month when the Draw will be on 28th Feb.  You might want to come along and see if you’re the lucky one!

Christmas 300 Club Draw

The December 300 Club Draw was held at the Bowls Club’s Christmas Social evening, with about 70 people watching the event. Phil Reed pressed the raffle machine buttons, and one of Ian R’s numbers came up to win him the £500 first prize (much to Ian’s embarrassment and many people’s amusement)! Liz Franklin won the second prize of £100 with her number 249. Tony Adamson won another £50 with his number 129, and finally, John Rawson won £50 with number 60.

Thanks to everyone who took part, and we’ll share more winnings again in January.

A very Happy Christmas and a prosperous 2025 to all our members!

300 Club November Draw

We did this draw on Friday night 29th November in between our short mat games and prizes were split between ourselves and Tennis members this time around.
Willemien Barnes won £100 with her number 203, our own Tony Adamson picked up £50 with number 189, Alan Cornish, a regular winner and long time member also won £50 with 217 and known to us all, Janet Shannon won the 4th prize £20 with 101.
Next month, on 13th December at the Christmas Social we will draw the biggest prizes of the year - £500, £100, £50 and another £50.  Be there or be square ;-)

300 Club October Draw

We delayed the October draw so we could hold it at the Bowls Club AGM in front of a packed house of around 70 members.

Two of the prize winners were there but not first prize winner John Hurley who won £75 with his number 156.  Jill Jenner was not with us either, she won £50 with number 98.  Retiring Bowls Club President Les Canfield however did see his number 105 pop up on the raffle machine and he also won £50.  Last, and indeed least, in terms of money anyway, came Chris Shannon's number 284, winning him £20.

November's Draw on the 29th we will be giving away a total of £220 in prizes and just before Christmas we will be giving away £700!

300 Club September Draw

The September Draw resulted in a first prize £200 win for great friend of the Bowls Club Mr Tony Freeman with his number 178, Phil Reed who just happened to be pressing the raffle machine buttons magically managed to win the 2nd prize of £75 with number 185.  John Walker was also present to witness his number 153 come up to win a £50 3rd prize and Tennis Club Treasurer Ann Green's number 255 won the final prize of £25.

Next month's prizes return to more modest amounts given we will have a total of £195 to be won.

Thanks everyone who has numbers and therefore continues to support our club.

300 Club August Draw

The August draw took part without your correspondent who was away at the time, so was orchestrated in my absence by Phil and Chris, aided by Jacob.

Bowls Club members again managed a clean sweep with Sharon Heafey winning the £100 first prize with her number 119, Deirdre Page's number 97 came next winning her £50, Tony Freeman won again, this time £50 with his number 271 and finally Roger Blackburn picked up £20 with number 102.

Next month's prizes are £200, £75, £50 and £25 and if I don't forget, we will do the draw after the annual Chairman v Secretary match on 22nd September!

300 Club July Draw

The July draw was delayed so it could take place after the official opening of the Bozier bar on 4th August and therefore be witnessed by more 300 Club members than usual from the Tennis Club.  Unfortunately for them, on this occasion all 4 winners were Bowls Club members!

Barbara Lewin, who had been cooking sausages all evening deservedly won the £75 first prize, Dave Hickman, at the time sunning himself on holiday won £50, Mike Ralls who wasn't sunning himself won £50 and good friend of the club Tony Freeman won the £20 4th prize.

The August 300 Club draw will take place on 30th August unless I can persuade someone to do the draw after the Ladies v Gents match on 23rd!  Prizes up for grabs on this occasion will be £100, £50, £50 and £20.

300 Club June Draw

We did the 300 Club Draw for June in front of a crowd after the Friday League matches on 28th June.

Lucky winners this month were Robert Fieldsend for £200 with his number 92, next Beryl Wright's number 42 came up to win her £75, followed by Tony Adamson's 189 for £50 and Maxine Plested's 193 won her £25.

The July Draw is planned to take place at 8pm on 2nd August when we will also be officially unveiling the Bozier Bar!

300 Club May Draw

It’s a new 300 Club year and very many thanks to everyone who have renewed their numbers or taken up new numbers.

The good news is that we have names against all 300 numbers which is amazing by the end of May.  Thanks for supporting the 300 Club!

So, who won the May prizes drawn in the Clubhouse on Friday 31st May?  Well our Ladies Captain Jill Brooks won the £100 first prize, followed by £50 each to Johnny Wilkinson, £50 to Jean Miller and £50 to Olly Provan.  As always, congratulations goes to all 4 winners.

June’s prizes totalling £350 will be drawn on 28th June.

300 Club April Draw

We did the final draw of this 300 Club year on Friday night and I'm delighted to say that any day soon we will be able to transfer £3,600 to the Sports Club to help cover next year's loan repayments to the Thame Town Council and Oxfordshire LTA.

I will also be writing to everyone very soon to ask for support of the 300 Club for another year.

So, the lucky winners of the April Draw were Annie Bryant £100 with number 18, Alan Cornish, who has had multiple numbers with us since May 2018 won £50 with number 160, Ken Bennell, with us since May 2017 won £50 with 69 and the luckiest of all, Giuseppe Fiorello won £50, his 3rd prize this time around.

Many many many thanks to everyone who has had a number or numbers this year.

300 Club March Draw

The March Draw took place at our Pre Season Forum night in front of a full house and some quite extraordinary results popped out of the raffle machine!

Diane Pomfret who won £50 in January with her number 213 won again with the same number, this time the £200 first prize.  Then Russell Canfield, who won £50 last month won another £50, albeit with a different number, this time with 114.  Things normalised a bit after that with Christine Bennell winning £50 with number 33 and Beryl Wright £50 with number 54.

Thanks everyone who is a member for supporting the 300 Club this past year and I will be writing in a few weeks' time about the new May 2024 - April 2024 300 Club year when I hope that you will support us again.  I have started a 'waiting list' for anyone wanting any numbers that become available, so please contact me if that applies to you.

February 300 Club Draw

This month’s 300 Club Draw was held on Friday 23rd without your usual host and reporter, but ably administered by deputy Phil.

This time around Roger Mackriell was in residence to see his number 63 win him first prize of £100.   This was followed by £50 prizes for Russell Canfield and a further £50 for Adrian Wilcox.  Finally Colin French, busy supping his pint of Roasted Nuts at the bar, won £25.  Congratulations as always to all winners.

As mentioned last month, we have our Pre Season Forum on 15th March when we will do the March Draw, so make sure you are there to witness who becomes £200 richer along with 3 x £50s that we will be giving away.

January 300 Club Draw

Friday night was 300 Club Draw night and guess who won again for the 2nd month running but Tom 'Lucky Boy' Devaney.

First prize of £75 went to Chris Loftus, 2nd prize of £50 went to the aforementioned Thomas, a further £50 was won by Diane Pomfret and our own Gerry Bryant won the 4th prize of £25. Well done all.

Next month we will have prizes of £100, 2 x £50 and one of £25 to be drawn on 23rd February.

We have our Pre Season Forum in the diary for 15th March so we may do the March Draw then, so that’s another reason why you should be there to witness who picks up the top March prize of £200 along with 3 x £50s.

December 300 Club Draw

We held the bumper Christmas 300 Club draw during the Christmas Social on Friday night.

Tom “aka Lucky Boy” Devaney was in attendance to witness his number 21 pop up on the raffle machine to win him the £500 first prize - he seemed quite happy about that!  Haryna Gill won the £100 2nd prize with her number 234, and the two £50 prizes were won by Helena Richards and Liz Franklin with their numbers 85 and 246.

The Christmas Social was a super night organised by Jo and more about what other things went on feature later.

November 300 Club Draw

The November Draw took place on Friday evening in front of a packed house which included our local councillor, Social and 300 Club member and friend of the Club, Nigel Champkin-Woods and his wife Alison.

First prize of £100 went to Life Member and popular winner John Hurley with his number 283.  Second prize of £50 was won by David Hickman with number 290 and third prize £25 to Giuseppi Fiorello who extraordinarily won £200 with the very same number only 5 months ago (how is that possible - but amazingly it has happened before, back in 2020-21).  Notice also that all 3 numbers were in the new 201-300 range.

As always, congratulations to all winners.

Next month it’s the bumper Christmas Draw which will be held on 15th December at the Christmas Social when prizes will be £500, £100, £50 and another £50!  Be there to see your number appear on the raffle machine ……

October 300 Club Draw

This month we had the draw late so it could be held at the Bowls Club AGM which was attended by around 70 people.  The exceptional news is that reports and talk of our finances together with how the 300 Club works meant many more members signed up for available numbers.  So now at the time of writing we only have 2 numbers without names against them, numbers 274 and 289 if anyone wants them.  All great news with regard to raising money for the club.
Our lucky winners of the October draw were Tony Freeman who with number 96 won the top prize of £75, Irene Park won £50 with number 258 and Tom Devaney £25 with number 263.  Irene and Tom were both at the AGM so enjoyed that wonderful moment of surprise in person.
November prizes later this month will be £100, £50 and £25 and on 15th December we will give away £500, £100 and 2 lots of £50, so £700 in total.

September 300 Club Draw

The September 300 Club Draw was held at the Oktoberfest event on 6th October in front of a mixed crowd of tennis and bowls club members.

We were giving away prizes totalling £350 so it was unfortunate that none of the winners were there.

Nevertheless Barry Green’s number 64 won him £200 and then we had 3 winners of £50 each for Philippa (number 148), Mr Giles (117) and Denise (161).  Congratulations all.

One of the members there on the night signed up for an available number and another promised to join.  We have 24 numbers not yet taken in our quest to reach 300, so please let Ian know if you want one.

August 300 Club Draw

The August Draw was held over until 1st September so that it could be held after the Ladies v Gents match in front of a full house.
Our very own Dave Holland won the £100 first prize (his first win since being a member when the club started in May 2017), then embarrassingly your 300 Club Administrator won the 2nd prize of £50 and Val Sawyer won £25.
We have 25 numbers yet to be taken up so if you fancy a small gamble amounting to £2 a month please let Ian know.
The September draw will take place during Oktoberfest on 6th Oct when prizes will total £350.  The first prize will be £200 followed by 3 lots of £50.  And make sure you're in the draw by December when prizes will total £750!!
